Sixty-six tornadoes ripped through Western Kentucky the night of December 10, 2021. Despite tornado warnings from the National Weather Service, 87 people lost their lives.

That same week, The Weather Channel vowed to put all its data, tech and scale into improving existing tornado alerting technology — to better prepare people by predicting tornado outbreaks days in advance, not just hours.
